Finerty Pond is a beautiful and secluded swimming hole located in October Mountain State Forest near the town of Lee.

You can reach the swimming hole via a 5.9-mile out-and-back trail that winds through the gorgeous woodland of the state park. Be prepared to come across plenty of lush greenery and maybe even a woodland critter or two.

The trail is rated as moderate. It gains a fair amount of elevation (1,358 feet) and includes some uneven terrain. Still, it’s definitely doable for beginner hikers with good stamina and active pets.

When you finally reach the pond, you’ll almost certainly be ready to slip right in and cool off. The waters in this part of the October Mountains in Massachusetts are crisp, cold, and clean.

This swimming hole doesn’t have a sandy shoreline. You’ll need to pick your way along the rocky shore, so consider bringing water shoes or grabbing a pair of flip-flops to save yourself from stubbed toes.

Dogs are welcome at Finerty Pond, though they should be kept on their leash while on the trail and shore. Pack some snacks to enjoy by the water and be sure you have enough water before setting out.

The best part of hanging out here is that the hike to the pond deters casual visitors (especially because the first quarter is the most strenuous), making it the perfect hidden swimming hole in Massachusetts!
