4 Years Ago, Maine Experienced The Warmest Winter Day On Record With A Temperature Of 62 Degrees

Most of us know that Maine can be quite challenging in the winter. Between the cold temperatures, the windy gusts and the snow it can be tempting to stay indoors until June. But just a few years ago we had an interesting respite from that weather. We love the cozy days that come with a winter in Vacationland, but that warm day was something we'll never forget!

During a typical December in Maine we expect cold temperatures and snow. It looks a lot like this. And it's pretty great!

But we also know that a lot more of that is in store for us from January through springtime.

But just a few years ago, we had a wonderful respite when Maine saw it's hottest ever temperatures on Christmas Day 2015!

Portland, normally decked out for the holiday, saw a temp of 62 degrees marking the hottest any place in the state had ever been on December 25th.

The record before the 2015 record-setting heat wave was 57 degrees in 1888. However, some locations in the state saw 57 in2014.

While perhaps most notable for those of use expecting snow and cold, Maine wasn't the only state to experience these temperatures.

The NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information reported that more than 5,200 record daily highs were either broken or tied across the country in December 2015!

While we enjoyed the novelty of a December spring day we know not to anticipate many of those this year. How? The Farmer's Almanac predicts Winter 2020 will have frigid temps and above average amounts of snow!
