We can probably all agree that there's no shortage of beautiful views here in Maine. From those out the car window to those from the living room window to the ones we seek out on our long walks and hikes. They're all gorgeous which means it's just about impossible to choose one over another. But if we had to choose...the waterfall views on this simple little hike are pretty darn great!
Welcome to Mariaville Falls Preserve located in Ellsworth. The preserve is comprised of 123-acres and it sits on the eastern shore of the Union River's West Branch.
There's a lot to see and explore here, but our favorite way to enjoy the area is by taking the Mariaville Falls Trail to the namesake waterfall.
The trailhead from the parking lot heads through the woods and over the preserve's brook.
There's a lot to see along the way, so be sure to set aside some time to enjoy the views.
You'll soon head down a small hill where the trail intersects with another trail.
As you get closer to the Union River you should hear flowing water. This small brook is a good indication that you're close!
And, about a quarter of a mile beyond this intersection you'll come to Mariaville Falls. You might not hear about this one in large national magazines touting the beauty of Maine, but it's not to be missed if you love the under-the-radar bits of Maine.
The waterfall is referred to as a stair fall and the views from the path's overlook are beautiful.
Plan your visit for just after rainy weather and the view will be even more impressive.
The trail is a loop so once you've had your fill of the falls simply continue on your way!
Mariaville Falls Preserve offers a lovely way to enjoy a day outside in Maine. You can learn more about it, including how to hike to the waterfall by visiting Maine Trail Finder.
