This State Park In Maine Is So Little Known, You’ll Practically Have It All To Yourself

Moose Point State Park offers a secluded and peaceful retreat with trails, picnic areas, and ocean views.

Life can get too busy sometimes, can’t it? It’s good to get away to a secluded place and take some time with your family or by yourself. You can find what you are looking for at Moose Point State Park. The park is small but offers a place to sit, relax, watch the waves, or go on a short walk. With a natural backdrop like this one, it's tough to beat, and you may even have one of the best hidden gems in Maine all to yourself.

Moose Point State Park is located right off of route 1 in Searsport.

This is a very well-traveled road but Moose Point is often missed. The sign will be visible to the road so if you are traveling up to Bar Harbor, this might just be a great place to stop along the way.

If you choose to stop, you will be greeted with a small parking lot area with picnic benches right on the water.

Take a seat and watch as the waves lap along the shore, creating a peaceful place to have a meal with your family.

If you came to stretch out your legs after a long drive, this is a great park to do it.

This State Park offers three different trails that will take you through the woods and along the coastline. All of the trails are flat and accessible to most when you just want to take in the natural wonder of Maine’s wooded coastlines.

One favorite activity in Maine is to climb the stones on a beach of rocks.

Overturning these smooth rocks can uncover sea glass. Kids are often found hopping from one rock to the other, but why let all the kids have the fun? Allow yourself to wander and explore as you familiarize yourself with the rocky coastline. Taking one of the two stairs leading down from the parking area and you will be right on the classic Maine rock beaches.

If you want to sit and relax, the option is there too.

Find a spot among the rocks to sit and take it all in. Maybe bring a book or just stare into the vastness of the sea. Getting lost in the rhythmic flow of something so peaceful and yet capable of something far more fierce. The ocean is a fascinating place to watch.

This small little known and often forgotten state park does have a lot to offer. From the picnic tables to the playground, to the trails, and to the beautiful ocean coastline. You will find seclusion and relaxation at Moose Point State Park. Please note also that there is a fee to enter the park and it is only open from 9 AM to sunset every day from Memorial Day to October 1st. You can enjoy the park during the off-season but you will have to park outside of the gate. So get outside and enjoy this often-forgotten but wonderful park!
