We’re so lucky to live in a state like Maine, where we can enjoy the fresh air and the beauty of nature on one of its many walking and hiking trails. Next time you’ve got some free time, slip on comfy shoes and make your way to Pondicherry Park, home to a can’t-miss hike in Maine that belongs on the top of every bucket list.
Nestled on 66 acres in Bridgton, Pondicherry Park is one of those quiet spots that has something for everyone, whether you want to keep an eye out for wildlife like salamanders and mink, or you feel like meandering along one of the more than half a dozen trails, most of which tally around a mile. The Pondicherry Park All Persons Trail, a short and sweet path clocking in at just 1.4 miles, will take you through the forest and past streams.
Because of its easy rating and natural beauty, the All Persons Trail can get quite busy. However, if you’re looking for a path you’ll have all to yourself, you might luck out and visit at one of the quieter times of the week. Hiking is popular year-round on this nature trail, but if you’re visiting after it has snowed, consider cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, both popular wintertime activities at Pondicherry Park. If you’re hiking this pretty path, wear sturdy shoes, or even sneakers, that you don’t mind getting muddy.
The predominately flat trail wanders through the forest with trees providing ample shade during the warmer times of the year, although the sun sometimes manages to peek through the branches. Stroll on the path that will take you along a boardwalk and through an enchanting covered bridge. Take a few minutes, if you can, to stop, admire the views, and snap photos. Stone ruins, a surprise if this is your first time on the All Persons Trail, also sit along the path.
Birds will serenade you as you make your way along the well-maintained trail, and you might cross paths with deer and beaver. Listen for the sound of woodpeckers, too, as you pass wild berries and wildflowers in the spring and brilliant shades of gold, red, and orange during the peak of the fall foliage.
