This Exhilarating Hike Takes You To a Crystal Blue Lake In Maine
Fernald's Neck Preserve in Lincolnville, Maine offers beautiful hiking trails with scenic views of Megunticook Lake.
If you’re anything like us, the last few months have frazzled your nerves and kept you guessing. There are a few ways to get yourself back to baseline, but one of our go-to methods is by getting outside. Whether it’s a few minutes outside in the morning or an all-day trip to the woods, nice Maine air is a great way to clear your head. If you’re looking for a way to do it that includes some beautiful views, we recommend this hike!
Located on the north end of Megunticook Lake in Lincolnville you'll find Fernald's Neck Preserve which protects almost 3 miles of shoreline. The preserve offers tons of ways to get close to nature, but we love hiking through to see the beautiful lake.
There are about 4-miles of trails here and each one provides something different.
However, all of them will lead you through dense forest with beautiful greener.
And some even include open spaces which provide lovely breezes.
Visiting during the spring means flowers and bright green leaves and grass.
Of all the trails, we particularly love the ones that lead to views of the water. Check out the map at the trailhead before setting off, but the blue trail is high on our list.
This 1.7-mile loop surrounds the area and provides views almost the entire way.
Make your way to one of the higher elevations and you'll see the lake from above. But stay closer to the bottom and you'll even be able to swim when it's warm enough.
This is one of the most beautiful areas of the state and Megunticook Lake is a stunner any time of year.
Once you've done the Blue Trail, head on over to the Yellow Trail which includes one very special attraction!
Balance rock looks like it's been stuck precariously in an awkward position and that it could come loose at any moment!
The entire network of trails here are worth exploring. Doing them all would be a fun day-trip. Or you can split them up for a good excuse to come back to Fernald's Neck Preserve multiple times.
