It’s Thanksgiving All Year Round At This Charming Turkey Farm In Maine
Harris Turkey Farm in Maine offers Thanksgiving-style meals year-round with locally raised turkeys and other homemade goods.
This may not be a popular opinion, but we wholeheartedly believe that Thanksgiving is the best holiday of the year. It's right at the end of fall, which means winter and snow and all the fun things that go along with that are on their way. It also means some of the best food on our tables. Cranberries, stuffing, potatoes, pies and turkey! The only bad part of Thanksgiving is that you've got to wait all year to enjoy it. That's why this farm in Maine is so appealing. It offers an opportunity to eat like it's Thanksgiving no matter that time of year we're in!
Harris Turkey Farm in West Newfield started out as just an experiment in raising a few turkeys. But, after experiencing the flavor of a locally raised turkey it was clear that this was a calling.
The official farm began in 2015 and has become the best place in Maine to get a local turkey.
The farm store here is quaint with vintage style charm. But, we're really here for the turkey!
Each bird is raised from a day old poult and kept in a warm turkey nursery for a week.
Eventually they are moved to a large outdoor fenced area that is covered with green grass and lush vegetation.
There's also a vegetable for things like fresh kale.
Visitors can come see the farm, including the turkeys on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month.
But, if you can't make it to the farm you can order what they're best known for - turkey pot pie!
You can also get them in farm stands, so keep an eye out!
And be sure to look for them (with samples!) at farmers' markets all over the state./
In addition to three kinds of pot pies, they also make a two soups, and two styles of chili. Those with a sweet tooth will love that they make New York style cheesecakes, too.
Harris Turkey Farm is open the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month, or by appointment. You can learn more about them on their website or by following them on Facebook. You can reach them on 207-432-5223. Address: 267 Bridge Street, West Newfield, ME 04095.
While we're waiting for Thanksgiving to arrive, at least we have summer dining outdoors! Check out this restaurant located right on a pond. It's as if it has its very own lagoon!
