The Misty Mornings At Boot Head Preserve In Maine Are Worth The Trip To This Hidden Corner Of The State
Boot Head Preserve in Downeast Maine offers a scenic 2.4-mile trail through diverse landscapes, perfect for year-round exploration.
Downeast Maine offers untouched scenery and some of the most beautiful views. Confusing to those who aren't familiar with the state, the region is actually located North of the midcoast. With sparsely populated towns and the kind of lifestyle that feels a bit slower in the best way possible, visiting this area is a great way to unwind and get to know a side of Maine that most people miss. One great way to appreciate it is by heading to this preserve to take in the fresh air.
Boot Head Preserve in Lubec offers 700 acres of rugged land to explore right along the coast.
The best way to see the area is by taking the 2.4-mile Boot Head Preserve trail that starts at the trailhead.
The trail, which brings hikers from forest to bogs to beach and back, is simple to navigate.
While portions of the trail can be difficult due to exposed roots and rocks, the route is rated as easy as the elevation gain is minimal at just under 250 feet.
There are also portions with steps that have been built making the trail easier to navigate.
One you've made your way through the forest area, you'll find yourself at the beach. This rocky area is perfect for little adventures and we recommend factoring in extra time to explore here.
You'll also come to areas with incredible views of inlets and coves. These are extra-special when conditions are misty.
We love just how lush and green the preserve is, but there's also something beautiful about seeing it in the snow!
This trail is one of the most beautiful in Maine and we recommend it to anyone looking to do some exploring in the downeast region.
Boot Head Preserve is accessible year-round, but always be mindful of the weather and take extra precautions when things might be slippery and cold. Downeast is beautiful, but there's also plenty to see in areas a bit closer to Maine's larger towns. You can see the tallest waterfall in Maine at Baxter State Park!
