This State Park In Louisiana Has A Secret Beach Where The Water Is Simply Mesmerizing

Northern Louisiana offers hidden gem beaches like those at Caney Creek Reservoir and Jimmie Davis State Park, perfect for various recreational activities.

Even with nearly 400 miles of coastline, Louisiana's beaches are still considered a bit of a hidden gem. Gulf Coast beaches like Holly Beach and Rutherford Beach offer wonderful opportunities to sink your toes in the sand, snag a few seashells, and even spend a night or two camping right on the beach, but what about northern Louisiana? You may be surprised to learn that there are a handful of beaches in northern Louisiana, and they're ideal for a day of fun in the sun.

The Caney Creek Reservoir offers endless opportunities for recreational fun in Louisiana.

The 5,200-acre lake is ideal for fishing, boating, swimming, and more. In the warmer months, it's a great spot for waterskiing, too.

Located roughly 30 miles southeast of Ruston, Jimmie Davis State Park is the preferred access point for many folks looking to spend a day out on the water.

Visitors to the state park can set up beach umbrellas and tents along the white sandy beach.

The swimming area along the beach is roped off and safe from the designated boating area, so feel free to bring an inflatable raft and spend some time floating around.

There's also a spray pad for the youngsters, plenty of picnic benches and shaded areas to enjoy once that Louisiana summer sun starts beating down.

And as you can see, the parking lot is nearby! Say goodbye to those long walks from the car to the beach carrying all of your beach gear. This is a short and sweet (and mostly paved) walk.

After a few hours with your toes in the sand, take a stroll along the water's edge. There are several piers that are perfect for either dropping a line or catching the sunset.

1. Lake Claiborne

The beautiful sandy beach at Lake Claiborne State Park provides endless hours of fun and the cool waters of the lake are great for keeping cool. It's easy to see why it's one of the best beaches in Louisiana since you've got the best of both worlds: shade and sun! When you’ve had enough of the sun, you can retreat back to the cooling shade of the pine trees. There are plenty of picnic tables along the treeline, too, so pack a lunch!

Head on down to the Cajun Riviera for some beautiful scenery. Holly Beach, located in Cameron Parish right on the Gulf, is wonderful for looking for seashells and there are several houses you can rent if you’d like to make a weekend out of it. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you can bring your camping gear and pitch a tent right on the beach!

There’s a little stretch of man-made beach over at Cypremort Point State Park that’s a delightful spot to sit back and watch the sailboats go by. Fishing is a popular pastime here, but what you really need to do it stay to watch the sunset—it’s simply mesmerizing and easily one of the most tropical getaways in Louisiana.

4. Grand Isle State Park

Grand Isle has seven miles of beaches you can sink your toes in. It's also a fisherman’s paradise, so be sure to bring your rod and reel. It's yet another spot where you can also camp right on the beach, so you can fall asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore.

5. White Sands Lake Day Beach

For fun for the whole family, spend an afternoon at White Sands Lake in Franklinton. The spring-fed lake makes it one of the clearest lakes in Louisiana, and the aqua park is fun for all ages. You can also rent kayaks and paddleboards to explore the lake on your own.

Also known as the Ouiska Chitto River, this river flows through an area that was once referred to as "no man’s land" and was home to adventurers, robbers, cutthroats, murderers, and even pirates. It’s rumored that Jean Lafitte buried his treasure somewhere along the river banks.
