The R. W. Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport offers a unique blend of art, sculpture gardens, and landscaped grounds, all with free admission.
If you are lucky enough to live in the Shreveport area, you have probably already explored this special place---but if not, you are in for a treat. There is something truly special about the R. W. Norton Art Gallery, and we're going to show you all that it has to offer:
The R. W. Norton Gallery is a little slice of heaven right in Shreveport, LA.
The gallery and gardens can be found at 4747 Creswell Ave.
The gallery is so much more than just a gallery. It includes a sculpture garden, 40 acres of landscaped grounds, and a research library.
The gallery was established through the generosity of the Richard W. Norton family, who was one of the discoverers of the Rodessa Oil Field in North Louisiana.
It was sparked by the unique art collection of his wife.
There are a variety of amazing sculptures on the grounds that delight visitors.
This one was created by Kent Ullberg and is called Ring of Bright Water (Otters).
This sculpture was created by Kent Price and is called "Monet in his Garden".
The incredible gardens feature Azaleas in particular, with more than 100 native and hybrid varieties on the grounds.
There are also many other flowers including canna lilies, irises, and coneflowers.
There are a variety of water features and winding paths to make exploring the garden easy.
Gorgeous trees dot the landscape and various streams and ponds make the atmosphere pop.
Of course, inside of the gallery there are also some amazing, artistic delights.
The art collection here spans the centuries and is full of gorgeous pieces from around the world.
Guests are always welcome at the gallery to explore inside and out.
And the best part? Visiting is completely free. The museum is open from 10am-5pm Tuesday-Friday, and from 1pm-5pm on Saturday and Sunday. The gardens are open everyday in the summer from 7am to 7pm.
