The Iconic Trail in Louisiana Everyone Should Hike Once in Their Lifetime

The most iconic trails in Louisiana will lead you through a labyrinth of waterfront views underneath canopies of longleaf pines and be scored by the sounds of songbirds above you. We're known for our bayous and marshes, so naturally, the best trails in Louisiana should showcase them! This iconic trail in Louisiana checks all the boxes, and it might just become your new favorite weekend trail. 

Clocking in at just shy of five miles, the Comite Park Loop trail is a favorite for folks in the Greater Baton Rouge Area looking to escape to a more peaceful setting. It's one of my favorite trails because it includes a little bit of everything all rolled into one. You'll wander underneath a canopy of trees, alongside the water, and even end up at a little beach area.

The trail is ideal for mountain biking, and many bikers will tell you that it’s one of the best mountain bike trails in Louisiana. I’ve yet to tackle this trail on a mountain bike, but I do enjoy walking this trail when the weather is nice. 

Like most Louisiana trails, the weather plays a significant role in how much you will enjoy this trail. The area is prone to flooding, and it’s common for the trail to wash out during a storm. It’s best to tackle this iconic trail in Louisiana when it has not rained in a while, or you'll be stepping through a lot of mud.

Like many of Louisiana’s waterfront trails, the bugs can make or break your experience. Mosquitos also love this trail, so either walk faster than them or load up on a good bug spray before you hit the trail. 

Your four-legged fur baby is welcome to join you on this trail, just make sure they are kept on a leash. Wildlife sightings are common on the trail, including snakes. Some of them may be venomous, so keeping your pup on a leash minimizes the chances of a surprise encounter. 

There are a few different offshoot trails you can take on this loop. I’d recommend having an AllTrails account handy just to make sure you’re on track. It’s easier than you think to wander off the main loop. The signage could be better, so keep AllTrails open while you’re hiking. 

Scenic views and overlooks on this trail are too many to count. Hopefully, there’s a nice breeze when you visit, and you can stop for a bit and admire the views without getting eaten alive by those pesky skeeters. You can always come back in the winter when there are fewer bugs. 

There are plenty of hiking trails near Baton Rouge to explore. I’d recommend checking out the trails at the Frenchtown Road Conservation Area or the Black Swamp Trail in Baton Rouge. The latter is a beautiful boardwalk trail that’s also kid-friendly.
