The Iconic Hiking Trail In Louisiana Is One Of The Coolest Outdoor Adventures You’ll Ever Take

Finding unique trails in Louisiana is one of my favorite things to do, and this one might be one of the coolest trails ever. The Monkey Trail is a series of trails just outside of Shreveport that caters to both mountain bikers and traditional hikers, and it's just perfect this time of year. Let's check it out:

The Monkey Trail is located in Eddie D. Jones Park in Keithville, Louisiana, which is just outside of Shreveport.

There are over 10 miles of trails to explore, and they’re ideal for mountain biking.

The trails are mainly single track, with plenty of rolling hills and switchbacks to keep your blood pumping.

There’s also a 1.5-mile hiking path, too.

10 miles in one day (on foot) is a lofty goal, so feel free to check out the shorter trail first.

The trails are well-marked, but it doesn’t hurt to have an AllTrails Plus account before you head out.

Cell service is usually not an issue here, so you won't have to worry about that.

When I mentioned that this is one of the coolest trails around, it’s not necessarily because of the scenery.

Although you do have some beautiful views on these trails.

The coolest part of this trail isn’t what you see, but what you hear.

Chimpanzees!

The trails are very close to Chimp Haven, a retirement center for over 300 chimpanzees.

The sanctuary takes care of chimpanzees who have retired from being used for medical research. You may have even seen the docu-series Meet the Chimps which is available on Disney+.

You'll be able to hear them in the distance while you're on the trail which adds a very unique soundtrack that you won't usually hear when you're hiking in Louisiana!

The trails are open year-round, though you may want to check the weather beforehand.

The trails can be very muddy after a rainfall. This beautiful photo above shows a part of the trail just after a snowfall, which looks dreamy! It doesn't snow very often in Louisiana, so when it does, make sure you get outside and explore it!
