The Whole Family Will Enjoy Hiking Through The Blackwater Conservation Area In Louisiana
Blackwater Conservation Area in Louisiana offers family-friendly outdoor activities with scenic trails and fishing lakes.
Nature preserves are a wonderful way to spend time with your family while introducing your little ones to the great outdoors. Luckily, Louisiana has plenty of spots that fit the bill, like Barataria Preserve, the Northlake Nature Center, and the Acadiana Park Nature Station. For those in the Greater Baton Rouge Area, the Blackwater Conservation Area is a splendid spot to spend some time with your crew. Let's check it out:
You’ll find the The Blackwater Conservation Area in Baker, Louisiana, just outside of Baton Rouge.
Once used as a dirt and gravel mine, the site sat abandoned for many years before the Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge (more commonly known as BREC) teamed up with the Army Corps of Engineers to open this scenic oasis in 2002.
The 57-acre park features two fishing lakes, a pavilion, restrooms, and a few lovely nature trails.
All of the trails meet up to form one big loop, so you can mix and match depending on your schedule.
And since all of the trails are less than a mile long, you can easily knock them out before lunchtime!
The trails will send you all around the conservation area.
You’ll have some stunning scenery along the way, including beautiful views of the lakes.
Benches peppered around are ideal for sitting for a spell and admiring the view...
...or park on the pier with your pole and see what you can catch!
The Blackwater Conservation Area is open daily from sunrise to sunset, and is free to enter.
