There is really no end to the natural beauty and outdoor adventure you can experience in Kentucky, and it's likely you never will see and do it all. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to see the most scenic places in our state, and one hidden gem that should be added to any list is Cove Spring Park in Frankfort. This park and nature preserve appears to be a typical city park when you first see its sign, but it's actually an incredible waterfall-filled property, hiding in plain sight, and ready for you to visit.
Cove Spring Park is a surprisingly large nature preserve, located on the northern side of Frankfort. Its 240 acres are filled with wetlands, streams, springs, waterfalls, forested ravines and other natural and historic features that make it worthy of a visit.
As a branch of the Kentucky River runs right through the park, there are many opportunities throughout the park to experience stunning water views. You can enjoy a little adventure along a hiking trail, or you only have to take a few steps from your car to relax and enjoy the sound of waterfalls.
There are actually many waterfalls throughout the park, and they are especially active after a heavy rainfall. Any time of year is ideal for a visit, but of course, the rush of the falls depends on the water conditions that day.
In addition to the waterfalls, the three miles of hiking trails provide an easy way to connect with nature and unwind. These trails offer natural beauty, as well as historic features that are fascinating to learn about as you explore.
Many are surprised to learn that Kentucky is filled with waterfalls, and you'd likely be surprised to find such scenery at this little known park. The rock formations throughout the preserve allow for scenic cascades and countless photo opportunities.
A portion of the trails at the park are handicapped accessible, and the hikes are also ideal for children and families. There is no charge to visit the preserve, and you can enjoy a quick visit, or explore enough to make a day of your trip here.
Cove Spring is the place to go if you love wildflowers, as they are abundant in many spots throughout the park. Don't forget your camera when you pay this property a visit.
