When a beautiful hike leads you to not only one, but two waterfalls, then you've basically hit the Bluegrass State natural wonder jackpot! This particular trail near Corbin will give you views of Kentucky's most popular waterfall, and get you right up close to one of its most beautiful falls, as well. Within Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, you'll find the 1.9-mile trail that leads to Eagle Falls.
This popular hike takes you into the woods, where you'll then begin a loop that takes you through a diverse landscape with incredible views.
This hiking trail with waterfalls in Kentucky is considered moderate, but many argue that it is closer to strenuous. There are definitely many steps and steep ascents, as well as rocks to climb over, especially toward the section near Eagle Falls.
As it is a heavily-trafficked trail, it is well marked and maintained. You will very likely see other hikers during your trip, but don't let that deter you from this unique adventure.
As you climb the first part of the trail, you're rewarded with the most incredible views of Cumberland Falls. A large part of the hike is along the cliff's edge, allowing views of Cumberland River and the surrounding forest.
Many people enjoy the Cumberland Falls Trail to view these falls up close, but the view you get from the Eagle Falls Trail is truly awe-inspiring. The "Niagara of the South" is one of the most recognizable Kentucky landmarks, and this natural wonder should definitely be viewed in person.
Also along the trail, you'll see many rock formations and hidden caves. The variety of scenery throughout the hike is one of its best features.
With varying landscapes comes a bit of danger, so exercise caution, especially when the trail is wet. The steps can get slippery and the lower section of the trail can become flooded with a large amount of rain.
Also dependent on the weather, a stream along the trail is a beautiful added bonus. And when you get close to Eagle Falls, the trail will lead you through a rocky area, to one of the most magical spots in Kentucky.
The flow of Eagle Falls varies with the rainfall, but it is still one of the most pristine natural wonders in our state. And given that it is fairly easy to access — if you're in decent shape, that is — makes it even better. On a hot day, come prepared to take a dip in the small swimming hole below the falls. And then enjoy the rest of the hike back, marveling at the fact that you got to witness not one, but two of Kentucky's wondrous waterfalls.
