John James Audubon State Park Is A Magical Place In Kentucky That You Thought Only Existed In Your Dreams
John James Audubon State Park in Kentucky is a magical place filled with breathtaking natural beauty and diverse ecosystems.
The Bluegrass is nothing is not beautiful, and there are astonishing natural wonders and sublime spots all across the state. Today, however, we're turning out attention to an oft-overlooked park that might be the most magical place in Kentucky. John James Audubon State Park is one of the smaller Kentucky State Parks, but each and every one of its 700+ acres is filled with breathtaking beauty that's downright magical.
There are many natural wonders in Kentucky that are so beautiful, they don't look real. Red River Gorge, Cumberland Falls (pictured), Land Between the Lakes, Mammoth Cave, Kingdom Come State Park, Dewey Lake... our state is a true natural beauty!
One picture-perfect place that doesn't get the attention is deserves, however, is John James Audubon State Park.
In fact, we'd like to nominate John James Audubon State Park as the most magical place in Kentucky! Here's why...
For starters, this Kentucky State Park exists, quite simply, to be beautiful. The John James Audubon State Park is a place with the most honorable of missions: to celebrate our state’s natural beauty and the simple joys of discovering the Great Outdoors.
And celebrate you will, with this park's abundance flora and fauna, thriving wetlands ecosystem, and vast diversity of wildlife.
All are invited to come and revel in the majesty of this Eden-like place, too. Acquired by the park in 2011, the Audubon Wetlands are a 649-acre site that feature a unique ecosystem of a Bald Cypress Tree slough, shrub wetland, and floodplain forest -- all in one location!
And the best part is, you can discover this wondrous ecosystem for yourself along the 1.5-mile boardwalk trail. This ADA-accessible trek ventures through the most compelling landscapes in the park, past abundant flora and fauna; a place teeming with verdant greenery and lush marshlands.
The rest of the grounds offer an equally enchanting experience, and whether you're exploring the forests or the flowers, the rolling hills or perfectly landscaped lawn.
Somewhat ironically, although the park was founded to celebrate nature, John James Audubon State Park is best-known for its fairy tale grounds, with the museum and nature center housed in an enchanting, castle-like building that's a Kentucky icon. This building is nothing short of magical, and it's impossible to imagine the park without it -- just as, of course, it's impossible to imagine Kentucky without this glorious and most magical place.
Have you explored the magical place in Kentucky before? Beautiful all year-round, there's nothing like a visit to John James Audubon State Park to satisfy your heart and soul.
