The Little-Known Natural Wonder In Kentucky That Becomes Even More Enchanting In The Wintertime
We’re proud of our natural wonders in Kentucky. Most people visit when they are lush and green and the wildflowers are blooming, or in the fall when the forest becomes a tapestry of colors. However, there are places that look so mystical and pristine when visited in the winter. You're bundled up in winter clothes, can see your breath, and the landscape is revealed more fully without so many leaves on the trees. Grayson Lake State Park in Kentucky transforms into something truly enchanting in the winter, and it is absolutely worth braving the cold to experience. Let's take a closer look at Grayson Lake State Park in the wintertime.
Grayson Lake State Park is about two hours east of Lexington and doesn’t receive as many accolades as Cumberland Falls or Red River Gorge, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the more beautiful natural wonders in Kentucky.
As you can see, it’s quite lush and gorgeous during the warmer months and locals love to come here for camping, waterskiing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, and more.
When winter hits, this stunning place becomes a still landscape of ice and snow. The lake starts to freeze over, and you may even be lucky enough to see some wildlife cautiously wandering here.
The evergreens hug the cliffs along the banks while a sea of deciduous trees that have lost their leaves create a wide swath of ethereal beauty. The water that trickles down the cliffs freezes into thousands of icicles.
Between snowstorms, the hiking trails here are wonderful to travel as the bare trees afford more of a view of the surrounding landscape and wildlife.
A winter stroll will have you discovering so many beautiful little scenes like this, with nooks and rock formations adorned with ice creating a sense of serenity and appreciation of nature.
Come enjoy some winter camping at Grayson Lake State Park and take a wintertime hike around this lovely place. You never know what you might find!
