Pine Mountain State Resort Park is located in southeastern Kentucky and boasts several scenic trails that wind through the mountain landscape.
One of the most popular is the trail to Honeymoon Falls, located right next to the park's lodge. At only a mile and a half, this is a fairly quick hike, but still very scenic.
You can actually choose from two trailheads for this hike, marked by yellow blazes.
The trailhead closest to the lodge takes you counter clockwise and has a tougher elevation change, while the other begins on the road and climbs more gradually.
No matter which direction you choose, you'll be met with thick foliage and a well-marked trail that's great for all ages.
The park marks it as strenuous due to the elevation change, but if you take your time and enjoy the scenery, it's not so bad.
And you'll want to take your time and explore all this trail has to offer.
You'll find remnants of old buildings, creeks, rock formations, abundant plant life and much more.
And then there's Honeymoon Falls, the largest waterfall in the park.
The waterfall is almost always flowing, although it can be reduced to a trickle during very dry periods. You'll want to spend some time here, listening to the water crash.
The waterfall is about 25 feet in height and pours down over a rocky cave opening.
There is greenery along this trail year round, and although it can get muddy and a little slippery, it's worth a visit any time of year.
There really is so much to explore along this short waterfall hike in Kentucky.
