Harrods Creek Park is located in Prospect, just north of Louisville.
For those who live in the nearby neighborhoods, it may not be much of a secret, but many have yet to experience this underrated trail in Kentucky. The park actually offers a series of trails that wind through a couple miles within the property.
There are four color-coded trails within the park- blue, orange, red, and green.
They are well marked and you can choose to stick to one color or take all of them since they all connect. The park isn't large, but it still manages to offer a variety of landscape and hiking experiences.
If you're looking for an easy trail that offers beautiful views, try the Orange Trail.
Keep in mind that this path is mostly in the sun, so come prepared on a hot day. But there are also lovely views of the creek and many swings to stop at and relax with just the sounds of nature.
The Blue Trail is much more shaded and still offers those wooded and creek views.
If you want to have most of the trail to yourself, arrive early or try a weekday. The park closes at dusk, so make sure you are heading out by then.
Harrods Creek is of course the highlight of the park and is ideal for cooling off on a hot day.
The Blue Trail ends at a sandy beach along the creek, perfect for relaxing and wading in to cool off. The creek is also popular with kayakers and offers a free launch for kayaks and canoes.
You do want to keep in mind that the land across the creek from the park is private property, so be sure to follow any "No Trespassing" signs.
After a rainfall and in the right conditions, you may see waterfalls and cascades appear along the creek. Just watch out for muddy spots.
Harrods Creek Park and its scenic trails are inviting all year long.
