See Unbelievable Images Of The Cumberland River In Kentucky Bizarrely Frozen In Half

Stunning drone photos capture the Cumberland River in Kentucky partially frozen during a cold snap.

The area around the city of Grand Rivers is filled with water and naturally is a favorite destination for summertime recreation. Throughout the colder months, there’s still plenty to see and do, but sometimes it gets so cold that the water has interesting freezing patterns. During one such cold snap, photographer Paducah Drone took to the sky to capture unbelievable images of the Cumberland River in Kentucky in winter – while it half of it was iced over. It’s not something you typically see in this area, but one thing is for sure, this frozen river in Kentucky is absolutely beautiful.

Grand Rivers is a peninsula of sorts that's surrounded by the waters of the Cumberland River and Kentucky Lake. Since the Cumberland River flows through Lake Barkley from Tennessee and eventually onto the Ohio River, it can create beautiful and unbelievable scenery throughout the year.

These photos were taken at the end of February 2021 when a cold snap hit the area. The drone took off from the Thirsty Turtle in Grand Rivers, shown below, a popular waterfront hang out during the summer.

Of course the depth of the water and other factors contribute to whether or not a lake or river freezes, and it sure does lead to some unbelievable photos.

Especially from the unique bird's eye perspective, you get to see a body of water that is often filled with speed boats and jet skis, frozen over.

This shot makes the frozen water look like a highway of entangled roads. The ice didn't last long and the river returned to normal.

Grand Rivers is known for its water surroundings and it's just as beautiful in the winter. Nature is an incredible thing and these images of the Cumberland River frozen in Kentucky are mesmerizing.
