5 Hikes With the Best Sunset Views in Kentucky

You can enjoy a dazzling sunset view on these five Kentucky hikes.

A sunset hike in Kentucky can be nothing short of magical. Of course, the brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow lighting up the sky are dazzling. But sunset hikes also often have fewer crowds, bringing a sense of peace and tranquility. Some wildlife are also more active at dusk, so you may have a better chance of seeing them in action on a sunset hike. There are many fantastic sunset hikes in Kentucky. We have found five amazing sunset trails in the Bluegrass State; check them out and let us know what you think!

1. Chimney Top Trail, Pine Ridge

Chimney Top Trail is an easy, 0.7-mile out-and-back trail in the Red River Gorge Geological Area. The paved hike leads to a lookout point with stunning views of the gorge and Chimney Top Rock. It's open year-round, and leashed dogs are welcome.

2. Indian Fort Lookout, Berea

The Indian Fort Lookout trail is a 1.9-mile out-and-back hike that's considered moderately challenging. It takes hikers from a gravel parking area to the peak of Indian Fort Mountain, where they can enjoy incredible landscape views. The trail is part of the Berea College Forest, a 9,000-acre forest managed by Berea College.

3. Green River Bluff, Echo River Springs, Sinkhole, and Heritage Trail, Mammoth Cave

The Green River Bluff, Echo River Springs, Sinkhole, and Heritage Trail is a 4.3-mile loop trail in Mammoth Cave National Park. It's moderately challenging and takes almost two hours to complete. The trail takes hikers along the Green River and to an overlook called Sunset Point, named for its fantastic sunset views. Hikers note that they see lots of wildlife on the trail.

4. Natural Bridge and Laurel Ridge Trail Loop, Slade

The Natural Bridge and Laurel Ridge Trail is a 1.8-mile loop trail in Natural Bridge State Resort Park. It takes hikers to Natural Bridge, a remarkable 78-foot-long natural sandstone arch. Other nearby features are Battleship Rock, Balanced Rock, and Lovers Leap. The sunset views from this trail are incredible. The path is considered kid-friendly, but dogs are not allowed.

5. West and East Pinnacle, Bighill

The West and East Pinnacle is a fantastic sunset hike for those who like a challenge; it's a strenuous 7-mile loop hike that gains more than 1,400 feet in elevation. The hike includes steep climbs and tricky terrain at times, with mud, ice, and leaves sometimes presenting challenges. Many note that the views are beautiful! The trail's viewpoints include the Bluegrass Overlook, Eagle's Nest, West Pinnacle, East Pinnacle, and Buzzard's Roost.
