This Off-The-Beaten-Path State Park In Kansas Is The Perfect Place To Escape
Meade State Park in western Kansas offers beautiful scenery, fishing, and camping opportunities in a peaceful, rural setting.
We love all of the Sunflower State, but it can sometimes feel like western Kansas is the red-headed stepchild that just doesn't get as much love because it's flat, it's rural, and it's filled with farmland. This is the quintessential rural landscape that comes to mind when most people in other states think about Kansas. It's true that this part of the state doesn't have much in the way of bustling cities or metropolitan areas, but there's tons of beauty here and there are plenty of attractions in western Kansas worth a visit, with one of our favorites being Meade State Park in Meade County. This 440-acre park is the only state park in southwest Kansas and it's such a beautiful place with plenty of recreational opportunities.
Meade State Park is home to the 80-acre Meade State Fishing Lake, which is an amazing spot for fishing. Bluegill, catfish, and largemouth bass are all quite common here.
While pleasure boating is not allowed on Meade Lake (it's only for fishing), it provides beautiful scenery for those just looking to explore the park.
You'll be able to spot a wide array of wildlife here. It's such a peaceful area for a stroll.
Both sunsets and sunrises over the lake are absolutely unbeatable. You'll be able to catch both if you opt to camp here.
The park features nearly 100 campsites, some with water and electric hookups.
There are several trails here, and the flat land in this region of the state means that none are overly difficult. No steep elevation gains here!
This is one of the most beautiful state parks in Kansas and a wonderful attraction in southwest Kansas.
