Kansas has an unfair reputation as a flyover state, somewhere that's not worth a stop where there isn't much to see. Anyone who has spent any time here knows nothing could be further from the truth. We have some remarkably scenic landscapes in the Sunflower State. Though we're often thought of as perfectly flat, we have some beautiful rolling hills, gorgeous valleys, and, of course, perfectly pristine prairies. If you're looking for an ideal spot to catch a sunset in the Sunflower State, check out the Konza Prairie Valley Overlook in Manhattan. This little roadside stop has some of the best views in Kansas!

This overlook in Kansas is located on Highway 177. The little visitor's center has some informative signs telling you about the history of the area.

It's so easy to look out onto this stunning, undeveloped land and imagine how it looked thousands of years ago.

Even the name "Konza Prairie" speaks to the land's history. Konza is another name for the Kansa tribe that inhabited the area that was to become Kansas.

The Konza Prairie Preserve is more than 8,500 acres of protected lands that are studied by The Nature Conservancy and Kansas State University.

It's actually one of the largest studied grassland ecosystems in the country.

The preserve spans four miles in one direction and five in the other. You might even catch a glimpse of bison grazing.

From the road, this might just look like a spot to get out and stretch your legs.

But if you do so, you'll be treated to some of the most gorgeous views in Kansas.
