This Little-Known Trail Is Quite Possibly the Best Walking Path in Kansas
This walking path in Kansas winds through Webster State Park and offers an easy, scenic loop that’s perfect for a quiet and relaxing stroll.
If you’re a big fan of hiking in Kansas, chances are you enjoy longer treks. The state has no shortage of trails that can easily take up most of the day, and those challenging hikes can be a lot of fun. Still, not everyone always has the time, energy, or physical ability to tackle something long and demanding. Sometimes, an easier trail is exactly what you’re looking for.
That’s where the Coyote Trail in Webster State Park comes in. Located in Stockton, Kansas, this underrated park is home to a handful of solid trails, but the Coyote Trail stands out as a favorite. It’s an approachable walking path in Kansas that offers peaceful scenery and a refreshing sense of escape without requiring a major commitment.
The trail spans 2.9 miles and typically takes about an hour to complete. It follows a winding loop that curves through the landscape in an elongated figure-eight shape, keeping the walk interesting without making it feel difficult. There are also a few alternate paths along the way if you’d like to slightly shorten or lengthen your route.
Because this area isn’t overly popular, the trail feels pleasantly quiet and remote. It’s an ideal place for a solo stroll or a slow walk where you can enjoy the stillness. Shade is limited along the trail, so sunscreen is a must on sunny days. I personally love Sun Bum and always bring it along when hiking exposed paths like this one.
All told, the Coyote Trail is a lovely choice for an easy walk in Webster State Park and a reminder that shorter hikes can still be just as rewarding as longer ones.
