Ogle Magnificent Trees And Feel Miles Away From Your Troubles On This Fairy Tale Trail In Kansas
Ever feel like whisking yourself away to a world of your own creation? Getting away from your troubles and the daily stresses of life, family, and work sounds pretty incredible at times, and we all occasionally find ourselves fantasizing about getting away from all that. We may not have the ability to be physically transported to a magical world, but there are plenty of great fairy tale trails in Kansas where you can at least spend a few hours surrounded by beautiful natural surroundings and feel like you've escaped all your worries. One of our favorite places to do this is Cheney State Park, which has a beautiful hike that's one of the most magical trails in Kansas.
Cheney State Park is a 1,913-acre oasis tucked away in south-central Kansas, about 20 miles west of Wichita. The park has two sections on either side of the beautiful Cheney Reservoir, plus an adjacent wildlife area that's great for bird-watching and animal spotting.
The park's main trail, called the Cheney State Park Trail, is a 9.6-mile trek filled with gorgeous scenery that looks like it came straight out of a children's storybook.
The out-and-back trail takes about three hours for most hikers to complete in its entirety, though many opt for hiking a shorter section.
The scenery here is gorgeous, with plenty of shaded areas where you'll stroll through lush greenery in verdant woods.
There are plenty of open areas too, so if you're out on a hot day, make sure to bring lots of water.
You'll pass by several beaches -- scenic in the colder months and great places to cool off in the warmer times.
We're not particularly known for huge forests here in Kansas - our prairies are far more famous - but this fairy tale trail has some beautiful ones that will really capture your imagination!
You can learn more about Cheney State Park and the trails there from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks website.
