This Is The Absolute Best Place To Witness This Summer’s Perseid Meteor Shower In Iowa

This summer, the skies will be alive as one of the world's most impressive meteor showers comes to town. The Perseids, an active meteor shower closely affiliated with the Swift-Tuttle Comet, is expected to be most active from July 17th to August 24th in 2023. Iowa might not have any official Dark Sky Reserves, but it does have some great wide-open spaces without much light pollution. In many of these parks and preserves, you'll be able to see the sky without any extra implements. One of the best spots for stargazing in Iowa is the Eden Valley County Refuge in the small town of Baldwin. This relaxed local park has an impressive observation tower, as well as some great overnight accommodations if you plan to make your stargazing adventure into a longer affair.

Eden Valley County Refuge, in the small town of Baldwin, is a 201-acre park popular for recreation and sightseeing.

There's a playground, picnic area, and even a swinging bridge on the grounds.

The park is most famous for its impressive observation tower - certainly a great place to stargaze!

There are several cabins on the grounds if you don't want to pitch a tent, making it a perfect place for an overnight stargazing adventure.
