Sometimes, I just want to get away from it all - which can be challenging when you live in an urban area! Even in small towns, they can feel overly busy at times. But I don't have to head into the woods to escape - there's no better place to find a hiding spot than in a beautiful park, botanical garden, or arboretum. These green spaces help make towns what they are, and it just so happens that there's an amazing hidden arboretum in Iowa, located in Newton, the county seat of Jasper County. This six-acre park features over 185 species of trees, plus an elaborate collection of flower and grass beds. As if that wasn't enough, it's also a sculpture park, featuring some of Iowa's most unique public art. The best part is that it's absolutely free; so come on in, and explore the Newton Arboretum & Botanical Garden.
Filled with towering trees, the Newton Arboretum is one of the most impressive spots in Jasper County.
The biodiversity is almost as impressive as the garden itself - there are almost two hundred species here.
The entire park feels like a safe escape into nature, with some gorgeous paths to wander down.
Along the way, you'll see countless demonstration beds filled with in-season flowers and other plants.
But not all the plants are organic - some are metal, because this is a sculpture garden as well.
Everywhere you turn, you'll find unique pieces of public art waiting to be discovered.
There are many quiet little spots here to sit, reflect, and take in the natural beauty and creativity surrounding you everywhere you look.
