The Stunning Park In Iowa That Appears As Though It Was Ripped From A Dalí Painting
Iowa's state parks are truly amazing, and it's worth exploring them all - but what do you do when you've completed that item on the bucket list? One thing I love to do is explore county parks and discover some amazing surprises hiding in our own backyards. A great example of this is Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge, Iowa - a charming local park packed with recreation options and even a surprising lodging choice! But this unique park has another big surprise waiting for residents and visitors - it's basically an elaborate art installation serving as both a unique playground and a touching veterans' memorial, giving a spotlight to many local artists as well as creating a truly marvelous environment that often feels like it stepped right out of a painting and into the Hawkeye State.
Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge is one of those picturesque local parks that makes a perfect day trip destination no matter the season.
This park is known for its unique yurt village - a trio of camping locations that are more like mini-houses than tents.
But the most memorable feature of this park for many who visit is its veterans' memorial and sculpture park - the most beautiful in the state.
There are monuments to every war Iowa residents have fought in here, with styles ranging from minimalist to mysterious.
Many local sculptors have been given the chance to shine here with their memorable works on permanent display.
Not all the sculptures here are for memorials, though - the playground has several climbable displays that are simply adorable.
The eclectic mix of sculptures combines to create an almost surreal feeling, like something you might see in one of Salvador Dalí's works.
You'll be happy to spend the whole day here, exploring and discovering the unique features of this charming Fort Dodge park.
And even in the offseason, the fun doesn't stop - quite the contrary, as this park is known for its beautiful Christmas display!
