At just over 1,350 acres in size, Spring Mill State Park makes for an excellent day trip year-round.
It's open daily, all year round, from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m., and is host to some of the best hiking in Indiana.
The trails and picturesque old mill are wonderful always, but when surrounded by fall color they become particularly splendid.
There's nothing more jaw-dropping than fall colors during golden hour, so camp here and enjoy that last hour of daylight before sunset - or the first hour of daylight following sunrise - and experience it all at its best.

Embark upon one, two, or all of the seven wondrous hiking trails at the park for the best possible leaf-peeping experience.
Visit the Nature Center, and then hit the swimming pool... all surrounded by autumnal brilliance.
The old Hamer Cemetery is spooky and interesting always, but when it's wrapped in the golds and oranges of fall, it's the epitome of a crisp fall day.
Lake views are wonderful, and on still days when the lake reflects the surrounding foliage, the whole scene comes ablaze.
Fall in Indiana can be pretty chilly, so plan your visit accordingly.
Photography and videography are permitted with a permit; if you're a landscape photographer and are taking pictures for non-commercial purposes, you're good!
