We're pretty sure Indiana is one of those states that are ridiculously scenic all the time, but during the fall, it really does seem to take on a special kind of magic. When the leaves begin turning their shades of reds, golds, oranges, and crimson, we just can't help but revel in the beauty of the changing seasons; soon, winter will be here, but until then, we're going to enjoy some of the most amazing fall colors in the country. We've put together a short list of some of the best scenic overlooks in Indiana for fall color enthusiasts; we hope you'll enjoy them as much as we do!
Indiana is an amazing place in the fall; allow us to prove it to you.
There is almost nowhere in this state that you WON'T find spellbinding fall foliage, but we found a few spots where you can overlook the world and see its beauty in a whole new way.
1. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, Chellberg Farm Trail
Indiana Dunes National Park is an absolutely amazing place, and during the fall, it becomes somehow even more brilliant. Embark upon this easy, 1.1-mile trail and find yourself looking down upon golden woods from the boardwalks before you fully immerse yourself in them. It's a view you won't soon forget - which is exactly what we're after.
2. The Ohio River: Many Lookout Points
The beautiful Ohio River runs right through the Hoosier State, and there are various amazing points at which you can stop and see what feels like the entire world. In the fall, the entire river valley is lit up with absolutely brilliant color, and it's well worth a visit no matter where in the state you're located.
3. Hickory Ridge Tower, Hoosier National Forest/Bloomington
Near the beautiful little town of Bloomington, nestled within the Hoosier National Forest, there's a 110-foot-tall lookout tower that was once used for detecting forest fires in the old days. Now, it's an amazing place to climb to the top of the world and overlook the woods - which will be ablaze with intense color in September and October. It also just so happens to be one of our favorite hiking trails in Indiana, so make plans to check it out this season!
4. Hemlock Cliffs, Hemlock Cliffs National Scenic Trail
Head out to the breathtaking Hemlock Cliffs region and wander the Hemlock Cliffs National Scenic Trail. An easy, one-mile trek down into the canyon takes adventurers to views they never thought possible - views made better only with incredible autumn splendor.
5. Brown County State Park, Hesitation Point
Hesitation Point is an amazing overlook within Brown County State Park, a region so beautiful it's often revered as the most beautiful part of the Hoosier State. And lucky for us, there's no better way to take in the fall foliage views than by a jaunt up to Hesitation Point, which can be accessed via the Hesitation Point Trail.
