There Are More Than 5 Waterfalls Within An Hour Of This One Indiana Town
Madison, Indiana, is a charming small town surrounded by numerous beautiful waterfalls, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers.
It's definitely no secret that there are, indeed, numerous small towns in Indiana worthy of visiting, though some do tend to have more to do and see than others. It seems to depend on our mood: if we're feeling adventurous, there are always the more fast-paced kinds of places (hello, Indy!), but if we're feeling a bit more low-key, many small towns will do. Take the adorable town of Madison, for example; it's so much more than just a cute small town. There's more: there just so happens to be no less than five beautiful (though often seasonal) waterfalls in Indiana right here near (and in) Madison. Check it out, and enjoy:
Most of these waterfalls can be found in one place: at Clifty Falls State Park.
From there, though, meandering south along the river will yield more, and you might want to try and make a whole day of it!
Madison is a very cute little town right on the water and has plenty of eateries and shops.
It's quiet and quaint, and just about everyone you meet is friendly, welcoming, and happy to chat. It's got all the charm of a small town but with the added rewards of nearby natural wonders.
Clifty Falls State Park is five miles from downtown Madison, and it's home to several waterfalls.
If you show up after a good rainstorm or during snowmelt, your chances of witnessing all of the falls mentioned here goes up (for obvious reasons). Other times, you might find dry rock where the falls usually are - it's all about the timing.
Waterfalls within Clifty Falls State Park Include Clifty Falls, Little Clifty Falls, Tunnel Falls, and Hoffman Falls.
Typically, Clifty Falls is a year-round waterfall, though again - it would behoove you to check it out in the spring and during summer rains.
Some other waterfalls located outside of Clifty Falls State Park are seasonal ones like Horseshoe Falls and Deadman's Falls...
...and even more are examples like the beautiful Butler Falls, Chain Mill Falls, and Fremont Falls. Continue south just a little bit more and you'll eventually find Harts Falls, which is nestled along Harts Falls Creek. It's well known that there are several beautiful waterfalls in Indiana, and these ones are truly representative of the wonders of the Hoosier State.
So, sure, while you could definitely make a trip out of the town of Madison, we think it's the natural wonders that surround this small town that are the best part.
Have you ever visited the town of Madison? It's cute, right? What about the nearby waterfalls? Talk about an adventure! If you can't possibly get enough of the waterfalls in Indiana (same), be sure to also check out Williamsport Falls, which is the tallest waterfall in IN.
