Welcome to Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge in Madison, Indiana! It's a treat. Covering 50,000 amazing acres, this incredible respite from the developed, human world is sure to become your new favorite place.
First things first, though: be sure to stop by the office and have a safety briefing. After all, this is an adventure, not your average park. There, you'll obtain a daily pass, which is necessary to enjoy your visit to the fullest. If you'd like, you can even pick up a map of the refuge and chit-chat with park rangers to learn about all the most recent sightings of who-knows-what critters.
Once you're out and about, though, I suspect you'll never want to leave.
Take your pick from a number of short, sweet trails — almost all of which are under one mile in length. There's only one trail that's lengthier, coming in at just over two miles in length. Heck, do 'em all, and see how amazing you feel by the end of your visit (just, uh ... stay hydrated).
If exploring on foot isn't quite your thing, no worries — there are guided tours of the refuge you can go on as well. You never know what you'll learn, what you'll see, and what you'll experience — but what you do know is that this place is something special.
Come experience wetlands, woodlands, and all sorts of amazing biomes in this larger-than-life wildlife refuge in Indiana. After all, it's not every day you get to explore something like this ... unless, of course, you visit daily.
