We have a lot of pretty forests in Indiana. I don't know about you, but there's just something about the way you feel when you walk through a wooded area that's truly amazing. I had a little trouble finding pictures, so there are a lot of state forests not included in this article. We have a lot of state forests that really don’t have pictures floating around the Internet or they only have tiny pictures that don't do the forest justice. But, here are 10 (and yes a couple are not actually state forests) with some pretty pictures for you to look at!

1. Yellowwood State Forest

Yellowwood State Forest is located at 772 Yellowwood Lake Rd, Nashville. The forest was established in 1940 even though the land was not deeded to the state until 1956. It's a very scenic forest with a lot of hiking trails to enjoy.

2. Clark State Forest

Clark State Forest was established in 1903. This actually makes it the oldest state forest in the Hoosier state. You can find this forest in Henryville if you're interested in going exploring.

3. Morgan-Monroe State Forest

This state forest is located at 6220 Forest Rd, Martinsville. While there are a lot of hiking trails, there are two 10 mile trails that loop through the mature area of the hardwood forest that are the notable trails this forest has to offer. Did you know the forest encompasses more than 24,000 acres of land?

4. Greene Sullivan State Forest

Greene Sullivan State Forest is located near Dugger. It was founded in 1936. This forest is great for camping, fishing, hunting, or just relaxing. It's truly a beautiful place to spend some time.

5. Hoosier National Forest

Hoosier National Forest is located at 811 Constitution Ave, Bedford. Did you know it was more than 12,000 years ago that this forest was first touched by humans? Neat!

6. Salamonie River State Forest

Salamonie River State Forest is a forest that stretches across some of Huntington and Wabash County. Lagro is the nearest city to this state forest. It's a great place for fishing, horseback riding, camping, hunting, or just relaxing outdoors.

7. Harrison–Crawford State Forest

You can find Harrison–Crawford State Forest at 7240 Old Forest Rd SW, Corydon. This state forest was established back in 1932.

8. Starve Hollow State Recreation Area

Starve Hollow State Recreation Area is technically a recreational area that is part of the Jackson–Washington State Forest. It's 280 acres in size and it's located near the city of Vallonia.

9. Jackson-Washington State Forest

This state forest is located at 1278 East State Road 250, Brownstown. Hunting, biking, hiking, fishing, archery, and horseback riding are a few of the more popular activities to partake in at this state forest.

10. Brown County State Park

I realize Brown County State Park is a state park and not a state forest. But, I’ve always thought it should be in the state forest list because of all the trees. What do you think?

11. Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve

Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve is technically not a state forest either, but it's a very woody area in Indiana. It's beautiful, and I decided it was worth mentioning. This natural reserve is located at 10410 Hague Rd in Fishers.
