All across the Praire State, residents can step out into their backyards and look into the night sky for all sorts of interesting things that are happening outside of our atmosphere. There are several exciting celestial events taking place in July, making it the best month this year for stargazing in the Land of Lincoln.

In addition to enjoying the night sky, there will also be opportunities to view actual space. Live streams of the international spacewalk as well as the Mars Rover launch are scheduled for this month.

There are also going to be several nights that seemingly very bright stars will cross the night sky and stick out on the horizon, but these are actually planets.

Mars, Jupiter, and Venus will make appearances this month that will outshine any star in the night sky. If it looks too big to be a star, it's probably a planet.

The most exciting celestial event taking place this month is the meteor shower. Known as the Delta Aquarid meteor shower. It may not be the most exciting of the year, but those who are patient are guaranteed to see a few.

July nights are often clear as long as there are no storms. This is the perfect month for summer stargazing as nights are warm enough that you can stay out late.
