Winter is here and with it comes plenty of exciting activities to keep us busy all season long. From snow tubing to skiing, winter hiking, and ice skating, we have so many opportunities to spend some time in the great outdoors this winter. And if you want to go ice skating in Illinois, why not try one of the largest, if not the largest, ice skating rink in the state? The Maggie Daley Ice Skating Ribbon offers plenty of square footage for an enjoyable time and plenty of room out on the ice.
Part of the Chicago Park District, the 20-acre Maggie Daley Park is located in the Chicago Loop. A pedestrian bridge connects Maggie Daley Park to Millennium Park.
During the winter, Maggie Daley Park transforms into a winter wonderland complete with a 27,500-square-foot ice skating ribbon. Not only is this an incredibly fun and unique ice skating rink, but there is plenty of room for everyone.
The ice skating ribbon is open from mid-November through the first week in March. Advance reservations are available online, but there may be some limited walkup entries available upon arrival.
Skating sessions are limited so it is best if you book your tickets in advance.
Make sure you give a wave to Zammi the Zamboni as he smoothes out the ice between sessions. The zamboni magic usually takes between 35 to 45 minutes so you'll have time to grab a hot cocoa or rest those weary skating legs.
Not only is it a blast to skate around the Maggie Daley Ice Skating Ribbon, but you'll get to take in some of the most spectacular views of the city's skyline as well.
You are allowed to bring your own ice skates, but if you don't have your own, don't worry! You can rent them on-site when you arrive.
Would you prefer to book a daytime or nighttime session? No matter what time of day you go skating at the Maggie Daley Ice Skating Ribbon, it will surely be a fun and memorable time!
