Jefferson County Lake, also known as Rigby Lake, is a popular summer destination in southeastern Idaho featuring a lake slide, sandy beaches, and a campground.
On a hot summer day, there is nothing like cooling off in a swimming hole. While there are several swimming holes around Idaho that we always recommend visiting, there is one in southeastern Idaho that may just be one of our favorites — Jefferson County Lake. Better known to the locals as Rigby Lake, this is the ultimate destination to cool off with a lake slide, sandy beaches, and even a campground. It is the place for one stellar summer adventure.
Jefferson County Lake, a.k.a. Rigby Lake, is located near Highway 20 in Rigby. When you first arrive, it will become easy to see why this is one of the best places to spend a summer day.
Rigby Lake is a fabulous summer day trip destination for the entire family. The lake, which fills naturally and is typically full the first week in July, is fun for swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and just cooling off.
There are also plenty of grassy areas and sandy beaches where you can have a picnic or even build a sand castle.
Near the lake you will also find volleyball nets, walking trails, and playground equipment — there really is plenty to do for the entire family.
During your visit, slide down and fall into the cool water on the lake slide. This is an exciting way for individuals of all ages to cool off and make a big splash.
While Rigby Lake is a wonderful swimming hole for a summer day, stay a little longer at the Jefferson County Campground. This campground features 50 campsites and each site includes water and electric hookups.
There is a day-use fee to access Rigby Lake and to use the campground. It is recommended to make reservations for a campsite as this campground does become quite busy, particularly on the weekends.
