Norton Lakes Trail in Idaho offers a challenging yet stunning hike through the Sawtooth Wilderness, featuring beautiful mountain views and emerald-green lakes.
There are nearly 400 high alpine lakes in the Sawtooth Wilderness, and many of these enchanting lakes can only be accessed on a hike. Such is the case with the stunning Norton Lakes in Idaho. The trail to reach these two lakes may be a bit challenging, but it is just as beautiful as the lakes themselves. On the Norton Lakes Trail, you will cross bridges, capture gorgeous mountain views, and find yourself surrounded by trees. This is a bucket-list-worthy trail for every hiker.
The Norton Lakes Trail is two miles one-way and you will be surrounded by Idaho beauty during your entire journey. The Sawtooths are considered some of the most beautiful places in Idaho. If you didn't believe it before, you’ll definitely agree after this hike!
To find the trailhead, you will travel north on Highway 75 past Ketchum for approximately 15 miles, until you reach Baker Creek Road. Follow this road for six miles and turn right onto Norton Creek Road. You will then follow this road for approximately 1.3 miles until you reach the trailhead.
While this certainly isn’t a long hiking trail, it is a bit challenging. It is a steep uphill climb the entire way to the lakes. In just a few miles, you will gain approximately 1,500 feet in elevation.
This scenic hike in Idaho boasts many features that make it unforgettable and one of a kind. You will cross wooden bridges along your way.
You will also capture some of the most gorgeous mountain scenes. We recommend not rushing through these areas and maybe even taking a break to admire the beauty around you.

… and enchanting creeks that you will pass by. Despite being a bit strenuous, this hiking trail in Idaho is almost too good to be true.
The first glimpse of Norton Lakes will leave quite an impression. The trees, mountains, and emerald-green water make this entire area look like a painting.
While you will reach the lower lake in 2 miles, continue for approximately 0.5-miles and you will reach the upper lake.
Once you reach Norton Lakes, wade in the cool water or just sit along the shore. No matter what you do, you’ll fall in love with Norton Lakes and the surrounding area — it is hard not to!
