This Little-Known Trail Is Quite Possibly the Best Biking and Walking Path in Idaho
Explore a hidden-gem trail in Idaho that’s ideal for biking and walking, featuring stunning views, a gentle grade, and a relaxing way to enjoy the outdoors.
I love many of the paths in Idaho. The Boise River Greenbelt, the Idaho Falls Greenbelt, and especially the Ashton-Tetonia Trail all hold a special place in my heart. However, many of these trails are well known, and it’s hard to find peace and quiet when you go for a stroll. The Black Bay Park Trail, located in Post Falls, may just be the best biking and walking path in Idaho. This short trail takes you around the beautiful Black Bay Park. It’s scenic, easy, and perfect for a day outdoors.

Black Bay Park is located in the town of Post Falls in northern Idaho. It is tucked along the Spokane River and is beautiful in every way. During the summer, this park comes alive with swimmers and floaters who want to spend some time in the water. It’s truly a fabulous summer day trip destination. But this park is more than just a place to swim and spend time in the water. It’s also home to the Black Bay Park Trail, a little-known paved path that is perfect for a family adventure.
This out-and-back trail is less than a mile long and takes you to Black Bay. It loops near the bay and then heads back to the trailhead. While it may be short, it’s certainly scenic. I love that you will walk next to the bay, capturing incredible water views. Stop and look for wildlife here—you never know what you may find and observe.
I also love the areas where you are surrounded by towering trees. You will feel tucked away from the rest of the world on your journey. And while this trail is beautiful throughout the year, summer is a popular season to explore as the trail is surrounded by wildflowers. However, I also recommend a visit during the fall, when autumn's palette is vibrant and stunning.
Plus, you can even bring your favorite furry friend on this adventure. Just make sure he stays on his leash. You'll also find picnic tables and benches along your way, perfect for a family picnic or as a place to stop and take a few moments to appreciate the beauty of this area.
The Black Bay Park Trail is a wonderful destination for the entire family. It’s a little-known trail in Idaho that may become one of your new favorite outdoor destinations.
