Enjoy A Long Walk At This Underrated State Park In Idaho
Idaho has incredible state parks that make for fabulous day trip destinations. While many of these parks draw in quite a crowd, there are others that don’t receive the attention they deserve. Mary Minerva McCroskey State Park, located near the town of Moscow, is one of the most underrated state parks in Idaho. Here, you’ll find a dense forest, remarkable Palouse views, and a trail that deserves a spot on every Idahoan’s bucket list.
Mary Minerva McCroskey State Park, better known to locals as McCroskey State Park, is one of the best state parks in northern Idaho. This lesser-known Idaho park is located in the Palouse region, approximately 25 miles north of Moscow.
This is actually one of the oldest state parks in Idaho. It was dedicated in the 1950s to honor frontier women and is home to all types of activities that will keep you busy for hours.
Tucked away in this state park is the Mary Minerva McCroskey Memorial State Park Loop Trail. It may be a long walk, but it’s one you’ll never forget.
This loop trail is approximately 5.3 miles. It is considered moderate in difficulty as there are some inclines you’ll need to climb.
Hiking tip: Keep an ear out for dirt bikes and mountain bikers as you hike. This is a popular trail for bikes in the area.
This hike may be on the longer side, but it has something for everyone. You will hike through gorgeous, thick forested areas. Being in such dense wooded areas can make you feel far away from your worries.
You will also come to overlooks that provide breathtaking views of the Palouse and the surrounding area. I could spend hours staring at the scenery so give yourself plenty of time to just stop and stare.
This trail is delightful any time of the year. Summer is when the trail is the busiest and it is also when this state park path is surrounded by gorgeous wildflowers.
Never overlook winter as you’ll feel like you are walking in a snowy wonderland.
For a day spent in nature, no matter the time of the year, there’s nothing quite like the Mary Minerva McCroskey Memorial State Park Loop Trail. It’s an Idaho path that deserves a spot on your bucket list.
