Hike This Amazing Trail in Georgia for an Unforgettable Adventure

We love featuring easy hikes in Georgia - if you're looking for a simple, relatively flat trail with great scenery that won't take you all day, there are tons of family-friendly Peach State hikes to enjoy. I'm a firm believer that you don't have to be perfectly able-bodied and in phenomenal shape to get out and enjoy the great outdoors, and we're very fortunate to have lots of easy trails that just about anyone can enjoy. With that being said, it's also understandable that some are up for more of a challenge. If you're looking for a lengthy hike that will really push you to your limits, you'll love the one we're featuring today: the Coosa Backcountry Trail that starts in Blairsville's Vogel State Park. This is most definitely not a journey for those who are out of shape or faint of heart, but for anyone looking for an epically unforgettable adventure in nature, this just might be right up your alley.

Vogel State Park is one of my favorite parks in the Peach State. It's the second-oldest of Georgia's state parks and spans 233 acres. It's right at the base of beautiful Blood Mountain and features some pretty spectacular views, no matter what time of year you visit.

The park is home to many streams and the lovely Lake Trahlyta. Several easy trails provide beautiful water views. If you're looking for something more difficult, the Coosa Backcountry Trail might be just what the doctor ordered.

This 12.5-mile trail climbs both Coosa Bald and Slaughter Mountain. The steep elevation gain and lengthy distance mean it requires about eight hours of hiking. Most hikers elect to camp along the trail overnight, and you'll definitely want to get an early morning start.

As a backcountry trail, you may find that some areas are a little overgrown, but it's not too tough to follow and is very well-blazed with green markings.

Make sure you bring along plenty of water, adequate supplies, and appropriate footwear. This is a difficult trek that isn't appropriate for beginning hikers, but if you're up for the challenge, it's definitely a fun adventure.
