5 Picture-Perfect Nature Trails in Florida for a Spring Hike
Myakka River Trail
Myakka River State Park is one of the oldest and largest parks in Florida, and it’s the perfect place for a springtime hike. There are several hiking trails within the park, and our favorite is the short and sweet one-mile Myakka River Trail from Park Drive. It’s the perfect spring hike in Florida to do a little wildlife watching, since this is the time of year when those gators emerge to soak up the sun. It’s always mesmerizing to watch the birds hunt for a snack, too!
Black Bear Wilderness Area Trail
The seven-mile Black Bear Wilderness Area Trail in Sanford is pure perfection year-round, but it really pops in the springtime. The boardwalk trail allows you to venture into the swamps in areas that wouldn’t otherwise be possible on foot, and seeing this 1,650-acre wildlife refuge in the spring is incredible. Animal lovers will especially love this trail!
Fairchild Botanical Garden Loop
Some of the best nature trails in Florida are in our beautiful botanical gardens. The Fairchild Botanical Garden offers 83 acres of beautiful blooms and palm trees to wander through. The loop trail is just shy of two miles and perfect for families.
Harry P Leu Garden Loop
If you like the Fairchild Botanical Gardens, you’ll love the Harry P Leu Gardens in Orlando. The one-mile loop brings you all around the botanical gardens, offering spectacular views of the endless azaleas, camellias, and native Florida plants. There are plenty of photo opportunities here, too!
Prairie Loop Trail
There are several trails in Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park in Okeechobee that are perfect for spring, and our favorite is the Prairie Loop Trail. This easy 4.5-mile hike starts near the visitor center and takes you through the dreamy landscape. Wildflowers of all colors bloom along the trail, so keep your eyes peeled to see how many you can find! The only downside to this trail is the lack of shade, so make sure you put on some sunscreen and a hat before you take off.
What to Expect on These Florida Trails

Even though Florida is blessed with a mild climate that tends to blur our seasons, Mother Nature still works hard during springtime. Some of Florida’s wildflowers include milkweed, black-eyed sysans, and beach sunflowers. Of course, Florida’s state wildflower, the Coreopsis, is always a treat to see (this beautiful yellow flower blooms in the spring and the fall!).
Springtime also brings endless opportunities for wildlife viewing. The migratory birds fly through Florida during this time of year, and our wildlife refuges and state parks are ideal spots to see them. Naturally, alligators and turtles are often found sunbathing along the banks of many of these nature trails in Florida, so keep an eye out for them, too!
