While some people visit Sarasota for the beautiful beaches and the laid-back salt-life vibe, there is another reason to visit entirely. Myakka River State Park in Florida is a huge park east of the ocean that clocks at 37,000 acres. As one of the largest state parks in the state, there is so much to see and do here. Myakka River State Park is a huge park in Sarasota that offers up a unique way to observe the surrounding natural landscape.

High in the treetops of one of Florida’s largest state parks is a canopy walk which takes visitors 100 feet through the hammocks, prairies, and wetlands.

The walkway is suspended 25 feet above the ground, eventually ending up at a giant tower that climbs 74 feet into the air.

The tower is the perfect place to see for miles in any direction, watching eagles and hawks soar, or the live oaks sway.

The trail itself was completed in 2000, and was the very first public treetop trail in North America.

Dogs are welcome on the Boylston Nature Trail, but they aren’t allowed on the walkway, so make sure if you’re doing the canopy walkway you leave the fur friends at home.

By climbing this canopy trail you’ll be able to experience a new perspective of the state park, from a vantage point that only the birds and butterflies have.
