Brandywine Branch Trail is an easy walking trail near Wilmington, Delaware that features some beautiful scenery. The trail is paved and follows along Brandywine Creek. You'll see interesting rock formations, flowers and a waterfall. The area is wooded and offers lots of opportunities for recreation.  After your walk or bike on the trail, you can choose to hang out in the park and picnic, visit a rose garden, or rock climb nearby.

Brandywine Branch Trail is about 2.6 miles long and is an out and back trail.

It is within the Brandywine Park. At 178 acres, this urban park is the largest in Delaware!

Because Brandywine Branch Trail is rated as easy, it is perfect for family and friends of all ages.

The paved pathway is large enough to accommodate groups and trail difficulty is rated as moderate.

One feature you'll notice along the path is interesting rock outcrops.

The geology of these rocks is unique. They are known as the Wilmington Blue Rocks because a vivid blue color is exposed when they break apart.

These rocks are classified as a type of gneiss, which is a metamorphic rock.

This means the rock has changed from one type to another because of extreme pressure or heat.

The Brandywine Branch Trail also has a lovely waterfall.

It is one of the many pretty elements this path has to offer.

You will find Jasper Crane Rose Garden at the beginning of the trail within Brandywine Park.

The garden was planted during the Great Depression to create jobs and enhance the beauty of Wilmington. Many types of roses grow here among other flowers and plants.

Also located in Brandywine Park is the Brandywine Zoo.

It’s roughly a three-minute walk from the trailhead.

The Brandywine Branch Trail ends in Alapocas Run State Park.

There is actually an area for rock climbing here but you must have a rock climbing permit. They are free and can be obtained from one of the Wilmington State Parks offices.
