This Scenic 35-Mile Drive Just May Be The Most Underrated Adventure In Delaware

Delaware's Nanticoke Heritage Byway offers a scenic drive through historic sites and beautiful landscapes in Sussex County.

Delaware is full of stunning back roads that take you through peaceful, historic landscapes. Delaware's Department of Transportation has made it one of their missions to preserve their favorite back roads that truly help tell the story of Delaware, from the very beginnings of the state's existence. One historic drive takes you through Sussex County and shows it off in a way you've never envisioned!

Delaware's Nanticoke Heritage Byway is one of the most underrated tours in Delaware.

Drive nearly 40 minutes through Sussex County to see the farms, historic buildings, and small towns that helped shape our state.

The Hearns & Rawlins Mill along Bridgeville Highway has had a mill on it since 1820! Over the years it has suffered through destruction by both fire and water and is a fascinating sight today.

The Cook House dates back to the late 1800s, and was purchased by William and Mollie Cook in 1909. It's right in the heart of downtown Laurel.

The Ross Mansion and Plantation is a spot in Seaford that includes a home dating back to 1856!

Visit the Seaford Museum on your journey to learn about the heritage and history of lower Delaware over the years.

Old Christ Church in Laurel is hard to miss along Chipmans Pond Rd. It's been standing here since 1770!

Of course, as you wind your way through Seaford, Bethel, Laurel and more Sussex County towns, you'll be greeted with some of the most stunning views of the Nanticoke River. Take the time to enjoy them.

The final leg of your drive will take you straight to Trap Pond State Park, where you can see a truly unique ecosystem up close and personal.
