Abbotts Pond Is The Best Trail You’ve Never Heard Of In Delaware
Discover the beauty of Delaware by hiking the trails around Abbott’s Pond in the Milford Millponds Nature Preserve.
Not everyone realizes how beautiful Delaware can be! All it takes is one afternoon hiking around a spot that you've never heard of in order to truly appreciate the beauty of the First State. If you're looking for a great day trip that will showcase a natural oasis out here, head to the trail around Abbott's Pond in the Milford Millponds Nature Preserve.
The Abbotts Mill Nature Center was founded in 1981, by the Delaware Nature Society.
In creating this preserve around the storied Abbotts Pond, the Nature Center wanted to allow for a spot where the public can interact with the natural environment while learning all about the way history and nature intertwine.
Today, the preserve is home to several trails and tracts that connect and wind through the ecosystem supported by Abbotts Pond.
You'll find miles of trails waiting for you to discover at this 376-acre wildlife area! The Abbotts Mill to Johnson Branch trail is an easy one that's the perfect introduction to hiking in Sussex County.
In the spring, summer, and fall - be prepared for bugs! Good bug spray and long pants are necessary to keep you safe from the flies and insects that call this place home.
Despite the occasional run-in with bugs, this preserve tract is one spot that you'll want to come back to again and again.
The Johnson Branch trail is just under two miles, out and back, and you'll feel invigorated when you get out there and start moving around!
