Few People Know About This Connecticut State Park Featuring Panoramic Views

Well-known places are often quite fun: after all, there's typically a reason a restaurant, attraction, or park is popular. However, the inverse is not necessarily true. Wonderful locations fly under the radar all the time - we have almost as many hidden gems in Connecticut as we do well-known attractions! One of our favorite underrated state parks in Connecticut is Haystack Mountain State Park in Norfolk. You can enjoy sweeping panoramic views here that are some of the best in the state, and the miles of trails are definitely worth exploring.

Since there are nearly 150 Connecticut state parks and state forests, it's not all that surprising that many don't get the attention they deserve. One that's quite underrated indeed is Haystack Mountain State Park, which spans 292 acres in Norfolk.

This place is magnificent at any time of year. The park has miles of trails to enjoy.

One unique highlight of the park is the mountain that shares its name. At 1,716 feet in elevation, Haystack Mountain is one of the tallest peaks in Connecticut. It's home to a 34-foot lookout tower.

The tower was constructed in 1929 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The granite used to build the tower was mostly quarried at the site.

As you can imagine, the views from the tower are pretty spectacular.

On a clear day, you can see all the way to Massachusetts and New York! The panoramic views are some of the best in the state.

Exploring this beautiful state park is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon no matter what time of year it is.
