Bask in the cool shade as you stroll through a stunning tunnel of trees in Connecticut. At Steep Rock Preserve, this gorgeous aspect is only the beginning. People have flocked to this enchanting 998-acre natural area for decades, and it's easy to see why. With ample hiking trails, peaceful camping spots, and historic ruins, Steep Rock Preserve might just be one of the most impressive places in all of Connecticut.

You'll find these jaw-dropping views in Washington Depot, Connecticut.

While there's no shortage of amazing pathways in this nature preserve, we recommend visiting the Yellow Loop first.

Steep Rock Preserve is also home to a fascinating old railroad tunnel.

Constructed between 1871 and 1872 by Shepaug Valley Railroad, this incredible tunnel has now been left for nature to reclaim. Today, hikers can journey through the 235-foot curved tunnel and feel the refreshing, damp air.
