Silver Sands State Park Is One Of The Most Spectacular Places To Watch The Sun Rise In Connecticut

If you're not a morning person, it can be tough to rise with the rooster to get a sunrise view, but sometimes it's worth the effort. Grab yourself a cup of coffee and head to Silver Sands State Park, where you'll see one of the most spectacular sunrises in the state.

You'll find Silver Sands State Park, in Milford, which is located in the southwest part of Connecticut. The park is nestled right on the banks of the New Jersey Sound.

Everyone should catch a sunrise view from this park at least once, so even if you don't usually wake up early, you might want to make an exception.

From rich oranges and yellows to vibrant purples, the sunrises here are downright spectacular, and the views of Charles Island are definitely photo-worthy.

When the tide is low, you can walk across the tombolo to access the island, but make sure to pay attention to the tide chart; you don't want to get stranded out there!

The island and tombolo are off-limits from May through August, when herons and egrets are nesting.

The park is typically quiet this early in the morning, and a brisk walk in the crisp, fresh air is the perfect way to start your day.

Silver Sands boasts a 200-foot boardwalk that makes for an easy stroll along Walnut Beach.

As you take in the scenic beauty of this place, it's hard to believe that it was once used as a garbage dump. Since 1977, it's been recovering and the tidal marsh is being restored, little by little.

If shell hunting is your hobby, Walnut Beach is a good spot to explore. In the early morning hours, you're more likely to find intact shells if you can get to them before the seagulls.

Depending on the time of year, and whether or not we're in Daylight Saving Time, you'll want to arrive by either 6 a.m. or 7 a.m, to be there in time to catch the first rays of light rising above the water.
