This Kid-Friendly Hike Takes You To Some Of The Prettiest Views In Connecticut

One good way to get the little ones outside is to explore a kid-friendly trail in Connecticut. It'll give them an appreciation for nature, provide time for bonding, and even give you both a little exercise. One great hike that's suitable for kiddos is in the underrated Horse Guard State Park. This scenic state park near Avon has a 1.5-mile White Trail that's not too difficult, making it perfect for kids and hikers of all experience levels.

At "only" 105 acres, Horse Guard State Park is one of the smaller state parks in Connecticut. Despite being purchased by the state in 1964, it remains largely undeveloped.

You may be wondering about the park's unusual name. It's in reference to the First Company Governor's Horse Guards, a branch of the Connecticut militia that's the oldest active cavalry unit in the United States.

The white-blazed trail at Horse Guard State Park is a simple 1.5-mile out-and-back hike that won't take too long, but provides lovely views.

The trail will take you through wooded areas until finally coming out at a beautiful overlook.

It's a little bit of a scramble to get up the crag at the trail's end, but you'll be met with gorgeous views to the south and west.

It feels like you're on top of the world up here!

Note that the trail can get a little muddy if there have been lots of recent rains, so you may want to wait for a dry spell to visit.
