There's no doubt that some of the prettiest places in Connecticut lie in our more rural areas. But you don't have to travel to the far corners of the state to discover breathtaking beauty. Just 15 minutes outside our capital city and a stone's throw from the interstate is an incredible botanical garden and park just begging for a visit. Featuring acres and acres of woodlands, open fields, and groomed gardens, Wickham Park is one hidden gem that's not to be missed.
Located on 280 acres in Manchester and East Hartford, Wickham Park is a natural oasis welcoming visitors of all ages.
Featuring nine different gardens that change with each season, every visit is a new delight.
As you stroll the paths, each twist and turn reveals a new surprise.
You'll feel as though you've stumbled straight into a living fairytale as you explore the park.
Each garden has a different theme. The Oriental Garden is one of the most popular and peaceful spots in the park.
There are also an English Garden, Italian Shine, Scottish Garden, and Irish Garden. It's like taking a botanical trip around the world!
There are plenty of benches where you can linger and just soak up the scenery for awhile.
This park isn't just for adults, the kids will love visiting too. A sensory garden with a train running through it will quickly become their favorite.
And a visit to the aviary to view the exotic birds is a crowd-pleaser for all ages.
With all of the open space, you can even bring a picnic, fly a kite, or just lounge in the sunshine for awhile.
Wickham Park is the perfect warm weather outing for all ages. Make sure you don't miss a thing by downloading a map of the park and botanical garden here.
